KiDiMu’s Fun-tastic FAQ

Got questions? We’ve got answers!
Let’s dive in and see how we can make your KiDiMu adventure even more awesome! 🚀

Is my child too old or too young to enjoy KiDiMu?

Our exhibits and activities are thoughtfully designed for children ages 1–12. They’re also a wonderful opportunity for adults to slow down, engage, and connect through imaginative play, curiosity, and shared discovery.

Is anyone able to visit the Museum?

Everyone is welcome at KiDiMu. We strive to create a space that embraces children and adults of all abilities, backgrounds, and identities, including neurodivergent visitors. To support a safe environment for all children, we have a “no adults alone” policy, unless of course, it’s an event just for adults!

If you’d like a guided tour or need specific accommodations, please call ahead or check in at the front desk—we’re happy to help. Contact us at 206-855-4650 or learnmore@kidimu.org to schedule.

Is it okay to drop my child off at the Museum?

Children must be accompanied by an adult (18+) unless they are participating in a designated drop-off program such as a camp or workshop. KiDiMu offers several drop-off options, including preschool, summer camps, NeuroGlow groups, and our Friday Fun Nights—featuring a movie, STEAM activities, and snacks.

Do you offer membership options?

Yes! Find out more about our memberships and the perks they include. here.

Is KiDiMu within walking distance of the ferry terminal?

Conveniently located near the ferry and downtown Winslow, KiDiMu is surrounded by beautiful museums, shops, restaurants, waterfront, and nature trails. We’re just off Winslow Way, about half a block from the ferry terminal.

Are food and drinks allowed inside?

To help us keep the Museum clean and safe, we generally ask that food and drinks be enjoyed outside at our picnic tables or at the Island Gateway Plaza tables. Drinks with lids are welcome inside as long as they aren’t glass and are securely sealed.

We understand that children and adults may need snacks or drinks for medical, sensory, or other needs—please feel free to enjoy them wherever necessary. We just ask that you clean up afterward or ask the front desk for help.

Is the Museum wheelchair-accessible?

Yes! KiDiMu is fully ADA-accessible.

Not only is the Museum wheelchair accessible, but it’s also designed to be welcoming and friendly for visitors with other mobility or vision challenges. We are committed to being an inclusive space for people of all abilities.

You may notice our Executive Director walking around with her service dog (Reggie) and service puppy in training (Cosey), and from time to time, certified therapy dogs also visit. If you’d like guidance on visiting with a service dog in training or are interested in joining our therapy animal volunteer program, please reach out to our Executive Director at Shea@kidimu.org.

We are always looking for assistance animals—including dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, birds, miniature pigs, and llamas or alpacas—who are certified through Pet Partners or Therapy Dogs International.

Unfortunately, all other animals are not permitted unless they are certified or provide demonstrated service to their human.

Where should I park my stroller?

Stroller parking is conveniently located just outside the Museum entrance and is the preferred spot. However, if you have a sleeping baby or need to keep your stroller close for medical reasons, just let our front desk staff know—we’ll be happy to accommodate you.

For everyone’s safety, please avoid parking strollers in areas where children are running. We want to make sure everyone has a fun and safe visit!

Is it possible to bring a class or organized group to visit?

We Love Group Visits!

Whether you’re a homeschool group, Mommy & Me class, after-school program, book club, or parent group—KiDiMu welcomes you! We also love field trips and other group visits.

Please contact us at 206-855-4650 or learnmore@kidimu.org to schedule in advance.

If specifically for a field trip contact us at fieldtrip@kidimu.org

Are there other things to do nearby for families?

Yes! KiDiMu is located in the heart of downtown Bainbridge Island, just steps from parks, beaches, restaurants, and shops. We’re happy to offer suggestions during your visit.

Do you have a Lost and Found?

Lost & Found

What if we can’t afford to visit?

Museums Are for Everyone

We believe museums should be accessible to all. If your family is unable to afford a Museum membership or admission, you may qualify for a reduced-fee or free pass or membership. Please reach out to us at frontdesk@kidimu.org or stop by the front desk for more information.

What are the house rules (KiDiMu Code of Conduct)?

To make sure everyone has the best day ever, here are our House Rules for Happy Play:

👀 Staying Together

For everyone’s safety and enjoyment, all children should stay with their grown-up throughout the visit. Adults, we appreciate your help in keeping an eye on your little ones!

🚫 Kids & Grown-Ups Visit Together

To keep everyone safe and supported, children should be accompanied by a grown-up (18+) throughout their visit—unless they’re signed up for a special KiDiMu program, like camp, preschool, or a workshop.

We appreciate your understanding and are happy to help make your visit smooth and enjoyable!

🍎 Food & Drinks

To keep our exhibits clean and ready for play, we generally ask that food and drinks be enjoyed outside at our picnic tables or at Island Gateway Plaza. Drinks with lids are welcome inside as long as they aren’t glass and are securely sealed.

We understand that children and adults may need snacks or drinks inside for medical, sensory, or other needs—please feel free to do so. Just clean up afterward or ask our front desk staff for a hand, and we’ll be happy to help.

👟 Comfy Feet Welcome!

We love comfy feet! Shoes should stay on in most areas, but they can be removed in designated spots or on carpeted areas where sock play is safe. We ask that socks stay on when running or climbing, as floors can be slippery.

We understand that removing shoes can be grounding and necessary for children or adults with vestibular or sensory needs. You might even see our Executive Director walking around without shoes—just part of making KiDiMu a welcoming and playful space for everyone!

🎟 Stop by the Front Desk!

Before you dive into the fun, swing by the front desk! You’ll hear about today’s special activities, new events, and any surprises waiting around the Museum. It’s the perfect way to make sure you don’t miss a thing!

💛 Play Kindly & Safely

Please be gentle with our exhibits—and with each other. Roughhousing, throwing materials, or banging full-body into exhibits isn’t safe or kind play.

We love seeing curiosity and creativity, but if your child needs more active movement, it’s best to run, swing, ride a bike, or play ball outside. (Stay tuned for a future neurodivergent-friendly play space designed for more active exploration!)

By playing carefully, we can all enjoy the exhibits and keep our materials in great condition for everyone.

Respect Our Space: No Refunds for Unsafe Behavior

We want everyone to have fun! If someone is being unsafe or unkind, we may need to ask them to take a little break from the Museum for the day—without a refund. Let’s all take care of the Museum—and each other—so everyone can enjoy the fun!

🧼 Scrub, Squish, Play!

Stop by a handwashing or sanitizer stations and give your hands a scrub. Then you’re all set for exploring, creating, and having fun 🧴

😷 Your Mask, Your Choice!

Want to wear a mask? Totally fine! Prefer not to? That’s fine too! At KiDiMu, we support whatever helps you feel safe and comfy while having fun.
